The last journey of the MiG-21

05 March, 1995.

The Hungarian MiG-21 MF type fighter was retired and a private person bought it after making it unable to operate. Four police cars escorted the tractor which towed the fighter in the slight evening traffic. Police cars blocked the crossroads in advance to ensure the safety crossing of the convoy. In a crossroad a drunken driver with his Peugeot 205 car broke through the cordon and drove on at high speed when suddenly the driver found himself face to face to the fighter aircraft. The four meter long external fuel tank of the fighter pierced the car totally through the driver's seat. The driver's seat belt was not fastened so he could get out the way of the tank and had a narrow escape. The driver jumped out the car after the crash and tried to run away but the police cached him. After a short break the convoy drove on but the further journey was also eventful. The aircraft just performed the last meters before get to its final destination when a car pursuited by a police car turned at high speed into the street just straight toward the MiG. The driver pulled away the steering wheel and run into the crowd around the aircraft. Fortunately everyone managed to jump away so the last journey of the MiG-21 could ended without accident.
